Sonia A. Mahendran has been in the conference industry for 20 years, having been based in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Hong Kong organising programmes around half the globe.
She has an LLB from University of Warwick UK, Barrister-at-law (Middle Temple) UK and was a practicing Advocate & Solicitor in Malaysia.
Sonia was the Co-founder and CEO of Asian World Summit Sdn Bhd, based in Kuala Lumpur, a company devoted in showcasing Asia as the power base of global change.
She was the Director of Asia Pacific/Middle East at London-based Marcus Evans (2000-2006). Sonia was part of a team of three senior members sent to Hong Kong to set up operations and establish a branch office which was eventually to be the main Marcus Evans hub in North Asia.
She was Business Development Director at Malaysia's leading independent private think tank the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute (ASLI) and was part of the organization team of Past President Bill Clinton’s first visit to Malaysia since his election as President of the United States. Clinton delivered the Sekhar Memorial Lecture and received the BC Sekhar Medal for transformational leadership.​
Sonia and Howard Bloom tested the Asian space waters by initiating a space-industry conference in Bangalore co-sponsored by the Indian Satellite Research Organisation (ISRO)--and the Confederation of Indian Industries: SpaceBiz 2008, which took place in November of that year.
